PT Indo Tambangraya Megah Tbk executed Mining for Children Program in Jorong in the Regency of Tanah Laut, South Kalimantan from April 6 to 8. It was part of Company’s corporate social responsibility activity.
There were 12 elementary schools visited by ITM CSR team, namely SDN Jorong 1, SDN Jorong 2, SDN Jorong 3, SDN Jorong 4, SDN Asam-asam 1, SDN Asam-asam 2, SDN Asam-asam 3, SDN Asam-asam 4, SDN Asam-asam 5, SDN Batalang, SDN Swarangan, and SDN Tunas Cahaya. The total number participants were 1,363 pupils and 131 teachers.
It was aimed at encouraging pupils’ reading interest and introducing coal mining by story telling whose idea was taken from ITM’s coal story book “The Adventure to Coal Mine.” Presented in a theatrical method, it was performed by four casts playing the characters of the story: Eston, Minko, Bain, Adin, and Eka.
At the end of the performance, ITM gave a number of souvenirs and plaques to the representative of the schools. To each pupil, it granted some school stationary, science books, as well as the story book “The Adventure to Coal Mine.”
The same activity was also held in Kepulauan Seribu (Thousands Islands) on April 14 to 15, reaching three schools in the archipelago, namely SDN Pulau Panggang 01, SDN Pulau Panggang 02 Pagi, SDN Pulau Panggang 03. As many as 434 pupils and 40 teachers participated in this event.
Separated by the Java Sea, the Thousand Islands are part of the province of Jakarta, the capital city of Republic of Indonesia. There are 105 small islands forming the archipelago, spreading along 45 kilometers from Jakarta Bay to the north. This archipelago was inhabited by 20,000 people with Pulau Panggang as the most populous island, and Pulau Pramuka as the center of local administration.
