ITM Donates Aid to the Victims of Padang Earthquake

ITM delivered aid to the victims of the Padang earthquake. The aid consisted of 10 tons of rice, 750 boxes of instant noodle, 100 tins of biscuit, 750 litter of cooking oil, 1000 pieces of sarong, and 750 pieces of children cloth. The aid donated was worth Rp 198 million in total.

In cooperation with the Indonesian Navy, the aid was shipped by KRI 356 Teluk Sibloga, a warship. It was packaged with other aid from other donors.

After 36 hour sailing from Tanjung Priok Harbor Jakarta, the craft anchored to Teluk Bayur Horbor on 22 October. A number of 8 ITM employees arrived at Padang. They are Leksono Poeranto, Rudy Prabowo, Heriyadi Zulhadi, Novrijal Tamsir, Amin Trirahayu, Yudho, Deddy Supriyadi and Rully Herdiansyah.

The team then held a coordination meeting with the local army, in order to prepare relieve operation such as unloading the stuffs from the ship to the trucks. Those ten trucks were divided into two groups. The first one consisted of 5 trucks heading for Pariaman while the other one were going to Agam. The unloading activity started at 11 and ended at 9.

On Saturday, 07.20 with the packages of aid in hand, 10 ITM trucks were in convoy to Pariaman.

Two hours latter, the packages of aid were received by the citizens of Pariaman Village. The armies helped ITM team distribute the goods to the victims while the second group of trucks disengaged from the convoy and continued the journey to Agam.

Located at the remote area of the city of Padang, Agam is close with the beautiful Maninjau Lake. The team moved to Tanjung Sani Village, the District of Tanjung Raya, in the Regency and called on an evacuation area which was accommodating 750 refugees from 112 different families.

At the emergency tents, they lived with a minimum sanitation facility. The government officers, soldiers, and volunteers from domestic and international NGOs helped them face the tough days. The refugees had fled from the threat of landslide. They had a serious traumatic experience as they saw a neighbor’s village being buried alive.

Visiting the refugee camp, ITM team handed over all of stuffs. Once more, the soldiers assisted the team distribute the aid in a well-organized manner.
