PT Jorong Barutama Greston arranged ”Motorcycle Mechanics and Welding Training for Community” for youths residing within area of Ring 1 comprising Asam-asam Village, Simpang Empat Sungai Baru Village, Karang Rejo Village, Jorong Village, Swarangan Village, and Batalang Village.
The training was joined by 12 youths from those six villages. On Mondays and Thursdays, started on June 15 to September 2, 2010, the young villagers would be undergoing a 7 hour-per-day-course covering theory and practice relating to the subject. A number of 8 employees of PT JBG’s Department of Mechanic and Welding were deployed to be the trainers.
“I hope that after the training, the youngs would be able to open new employment in their respective villages,” said PT JBG Mine Head Pongsak Dejmark, inaugurating the training along with PT JBG management board and the representative of the government of the village. Nevertheless, the graduates actually could work for various contractor companies as well as palm plantation companies dispersed in the Sub-district of Jorong.
The training is one of many community development programs conducted by PT Jorong Barutama Greston as a preparation for mining closure stage. With such programs, the community surrounding PT JBG would not depend on the Company when it stops operation. Apart from that, the activity could create positive image to all stakeholders.
“We expect that such programs could follow in the future,” said Dauli Fadli, a representative of the government of Jorong Village, seeing strong enthusiasm amongst the youths to join this course.
