PT Indo Tambangraya Megah Tbk launched a story book “Fossil Energy from the Deep of Earth and Its Usage” on December 14 at Graha Elnusa, Jakarta. This book is a continuation of the previous “Journey to Coal Mine.”
This book tells about 5 kids – Adin, Eka, Eston, Mino, and Bain returning to the mining site operation. This time they had a chance to visit an underground mining. During the visit, they were accompanied by Pak Seno, the Mine Head, who showed them the mining process and coal usage.
The editing process of the book involved Professor Doctor Engineer Rudy Sayoga Guatama, a professor from Bandung Technology Institute, and Ignatius Wurwanto, ITM’s Assistant Vice President of Quality, Safety, and Environment.
The event was attended by teachers from Jakarta and its satellite cities. They came from 33 of 55 elementary schools which had been visited by ITM in the frame of “Mining for Children,” an ITM's CSR subprogram under “ITM for Education” program.
“This is the first time I am invited to take part in the event like this,” Friska Simanjuntak, an elementary school teacher of SD Kemayoran, Jakarta. “I hope the Company will invite me to visit its mining site operation someday.”
The launching ceremony was done officially by Bambang Setiawan, the Head of the General Directorate of Mineral, Coal, and Geothermal.
Bambang said that mining shows a progress of civilization as human highly depends on mining outputs.
“With the publication of this book, we hope that kids could not be influenced by negative opinions on coal mining,” he stated, adding that a mining management with environmental vision is a responsibility of mining companies as well as the government and the society.
ITM’s Director of Finance Edward Manurung and AVP of Coporate Affairs Leksono Poeranto accompanied Bambang Setiawan during the occassion.
The other honored guest was Bob Kamandanu, the General Chairman of Indonesian Coal Miners. He said ITM had been one step ahead, adding that the book publishing was an original idea. He hoped that the book could make a contribution for national education. “I expect that such contribution could go on.”
After book launching, a talk show meant for teachers was arranged. It introduced a method of book reading called “Read Aloud.” The method could trigger children’s interest to read. The main speaker was Rossie Setiawan, the inventor of the “Read Aloud.”
