ITM Arranges Workshop on Mass Media and Library for Volunteers

In cooperation with Bisnis Indonesia daily and the Association of Newspaper Publishers, PT Indo Tambangraya Megah Tbk (ITM) arranged a one-day workshop with the theme of “Recognizing Mass Media and Managing Mini Library” for volunteers on December 12, 2009.

The workshop was attended by 94 volunteers of informal education from various social institutions which spread out in the area of Jakarta and its satellite cities. It aimed at introducing mass media activities and providing knowledge on how to manage mini library to the volunteers. A well managed mini library could motivate children – particularly the less fortunate ones – to like reading.

The speakers of this event were Arief Budisusilo (Chief Editor of Bisnis Indonesia dailiy), Pudi Handayani (junior high school teacher), and Naniek Peristiwati (member of Indonesian Library Club).

The speakers invited the partakers to know the dynamic of mass media activities. They were also shown that a newspaper could be used as learning tool for kids. Besides, they were also to discuss on how to set up and manage library in an attractive way. They also discussed about some prevailing barriers when running a library.

“We hope that you can take advantage of today’s workshop,” Melina Karamoy, ITM’s Corporate Communication  Manager said, adding that there were going to be many programs arranged for volunteers in 2010.

This workshop was a kind of Company’s care to enhance the capacity of volunteers of education in the frame of activity named “Volunteer Action.’ The activity alone is an implementation of Company’s corporate social responsibility called ‘ITM for Education.’
